  1. Empty Plane – Sign of the Times?

    February 28, 2009 by Leanne

I flew up to Washington, DC yesterday on a midday flight on a Friday afternoon. I was on the phone with my mom waiting to board – waiting to hear that familiar “Zone 1 for Flight 199 is now boarding”. But instead, they simply called for all passengers for Flight 199 to proceed with boarding. The plane had so few passengers they boarded everyone at once. And to top that, we boarded so quickly we pushed back 20 minutes early. Everyone in the economy cabin was free to pick any seat they wanted – it was that empty. From a passenger perspective it was very nice. We could stretch out, relax and move around freely. But from an economy perspective, it was quite scary.

  2. Vlog #2: What personal life?

    February 24, 2009 by Leanne

My 2nd vlog (video blog) is about the blending of personal life and business life in the new social media world. But I think what’s more interesting in this video, is how my dog, Mikita, totally upstages me from the get-go. Will anyone even listen to a word I’m saying?

  4. When exactly…

    February 21, 2009 by Leanne

I’m trying to remember when exactly:

    • I started prefering talk radio over music
    • I no longer recognized any of the Top 10 songs of the week
    • I started preferring a glass of red wine over a seabreeze or madris
    • I could no longer stay up too late or sleep in past 7am
    • The fear of skin cancer overcame the need to get a deep, dark tan
    • Watching TV news went from “must see” to “if I have time I’ll watch”
    • Driving a paid-off old car was more important than looking hip in a shiny new car.
    • Not having seen ANY of the Oscar nominated movies doesn’t bother me
    • I fazed out all my high-heeled shoes to wear comfy flats or low-heels
    • Going home to feed the dogs was more enticng than hitting happy hour

When did all these changes happen?  What can you add to this list?

  6. American Idol Experience

All 7 American Idols at Disney World

All 7 American Idols at Disney World

The all-new American Idol Experience opened today to guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  The media premiere held Thursday night brought together all 7 former Idols for the very first time.  What a moment for American Idol fans!  I include myself in that group. I’ve watched the show since day one.

Some of my favorites from the night:  Jordin Sparks, David Cook (of course!), Melinda Doolittle, Carrie Underwood.  And Paula looked darling her her little pink and blue tutu dress.I’m an AI junkie.  So it was definitely thrilling for me to be standing on the sidelines of the motorcade watching so many of the idols parade down Hollywood Blvd at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Both Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood were fan favorites. Carrie was gorgeous, petite and so gracious meeting with her fans.  Jordin was more beautiful in person and had such a big smile.  It was fun to watch the fans take self-photos with the Idols.

  7. Think Positive

    by Leanne

To describe these days at “tough economic times” doesn’t do it justice.  These are agonizing times. Gut-wrenching if you really want to know. I’m awake more than I’m asleep, wondering and worrying what lies ahead, not only for me, but for so many others.

Please send your positive thoughts and prayers to anyone you know going through a difficult situation.

We need those multi-millionaires to get out and start spending some of their money.  That would only help, right?

  8. 1st Visit to the Dog Park

    February 10, 2009 by Leanne

Love the Ball.. Love the Water..

Love the Ball.. Love the Water..

Mikita visits the “dog park” for the first time.

I was very leery of taking her to the dog park. The thought of my baby running around without her leash among dozens of other dogs. What if she ran away? What if another dog attacked her?  What if she ran off into the woods? (Yes, and god forbid, what about alligators!?)

Ok – just take a look at that photo to the left. Is that not one happy dog?  She started off a little timid, stopping to smell everything, looking around to make sure we were close by and staring at all the other 4-legged friends running around.  But she quickly adapted and was soon romping around  and splashing around in the lake like a dog-park pro.

    Mike watches over her.

Mike was the instigator of getting us to even go to the park.  He knew (and reassured me) how much fun she was going to have.  I was so worried about her running off. But she was more nervous about us leaving her. She ran up and down the shoreline, but would stop and turn around to make sure we were still standing where she left us before she ventured on further.   And she got along splendidly with all the other dogs. Ahhh.. happy dog days.

Look at me! I'm soaking wet!

For those in Central Florida, we went to Fleet Peeples Park in Winter Park, by the old Navy Base. There must have been more than 100 dogs there that day, if not more. It is double-gated to make it difficult, if not impossible for a dog to get out. There are dogs of all shapes and sizes, all there to have the times of their lives.  Maybe we’ll see you there soon.

  9. Leanne's French Toast

    February 4, 2009 by Leanne

The secret to my fabulous French toast is so simple – it’s almost a sin.  1.  The biggest secret is using good quality bread. I prefer multi-grain or whole grain breads and a nice thick piece of it, too.  2.  The 2nd secret – only use real maple syrup. You know, the kind in the ivory jug that says “Fresh from Vermont”. Other than that, the rest of the recipe is basic: Soak bread in mixture of:
    • 1 egg, or 2 egg whites
    • 1 heaping TBSP sugar
    • 1 TSP vanilla
    • couple dashes of cinnamon
Cook in frying pan using a pat of butter. Pour the real maple syrup over the cooked bread and “wahlah!”

  10. Safe Dog Chew Toys

Came across this article from dog expert Cesar Millan’s website on what are the safest chew toys for dogs.  The vet points out the differences in toys for large and small dogs.  Bottom line – Bully Sticks are right now the best product you can trust in your baby’s mouth.
