  1. Gustav & Hannah and Casey/Caylee

    August 30, 2008 by Leanne

There is so much going on in the world…

John McCain picks an unknown woman as his running mate, shocking everyone. Sarah Palin – a name we’re sure to hear more about than we’d ever want to know. Tonight on the local news, they showed a video clip of her when she was an intern at a TV station in 1988 – trying out for a sportscaster role. She wasn’t bad! It reminded me of all the video tapes there are of me out there in similar situations – trying out for weather girl, anchor woman, reporter chick… Fortunately, I think I have most of those tapes in my possession. Thank goodness I’m not running for any political office.
While we’re on politics – I’m already sick and tired of campaign phone calls to my home phone. There should be a “Do Not Call” list for politicians.

Casey Anthony is back in jail. When will the truth of this story come to light? This has been the most bizarre story ever – and Central Florida has seen it share of crazy news (Vampire Murders, Taco Bell Murders, DeLand Baseball Bat murders, Jennifer Kelsey)
Casey’s parents (Cindy and George) love their daughter, but for goodness sake, can’t they see what’s going on? Someone needs to put a muzzle on Cindy and not allow her to talk to the media.
And sadly, I think all hope is lost in finding Caylee alive. I had prayed that she was given away or something strange like that where she was still alive, but the new evidence suggests otherwise. She was such a beautiful child.

While the Anthony story continues to play itself out, there’s Gustav and Hannah knocking on some doors.

As I sit here and type this, Gustav is at a Category 4 – a major storm and will likely be a Cat-5 by the time it hits land. My thoughts and prayers are with those people in his path. This is one monster of a storm. Our area today was already getting rain bands from Gustav. It rained all day today, which doesn’t help the flood situation we have here already.
And then there’s Hannah, who is more of a threat to us in Central Florida. As luck would have it, she’s threatening to hit here the very day Mike is supposed to be flying down to visit me. Hannah – Hannah – GO AWAY!

OK – closer to home – lets show you Good Dog / Bad Dog.

    Good Dog
    Bad Dog!!
And that’s my story for today.

  2. Survived My First Camping Experience

    August 19, 2008 by Leanne

I guess watching all those Daniel Boone episodes as a kid finally paid off. I did it! I made it home with only minor cuts, scrapes and bruises from my first ever camping trip. Before this trip, I had never spent the night outdoors, or in a tent, or been without electricity for days upon days.
Lake George is gorgeous!! It was so pretty and serene there. I can see why it’s such a popular camping site. They’ve got the camping system down-pat.

This photo shows our island where we had all three campsites reserved just for our group. Yes, you can only get to the island by boat.

This is our tent. We were on a corner area right by the water.

A view from inside the tent.

    Part of the main campsite.

My hair survived no blow-dryer and no flat-iron for 6 days. It helped not having a mirror there to see the actual image. ugh.

The famous Sagamore Hotel was located right across the lake from our site.

The only thing that dampened my experience (no pun intended) was the rain. It rained almost every day. Most of my stuff got wet but you know, you live with it and move on.

I had a great time! I am now very appreciative of all the daily amenities I have that I never think about – like a hot shower, running toilet, electricity. I also really missed my dogs!

  3. Random thoughts…

A tribute to the writing style of Commander Coconut.

    • I wish my dog’s internal clocks would readjust for weekend hours. It’s not right to get out of bed at 5:30am on a Saturday.
    • When will Mikita outgrow her chewing of everything? This morning I found my computer mouse by the foot of my bed and my shoes I wore to work yesterday destroyed in the kitchen.
    • I have no desire to see Mamma Mia – the live production or the movie.
    • I am fascinated with Johnny Depp, but I’m not sure I want to see him in a Batman movie.
    • I wish I was really rich – because I’d have a personal chef and a personal trainer. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a big fresh salad that I don’t have to prepare myself.
    • Keeping on the “rich” theme – wouldn’t it be great to have a summer home somewhere? I can’t decide if I’d rather have one on the beach or up in the mountains secluded somewhere. I’ll have to give it some more thought.
    • I’m going to miss most of the Olympics this year – and I really don’t care. I think I’ll be back in time to catch some of the women’s gymnastics, which is all I am interested in anyway.
    • I’m really getting into online brain games, more than just the one I mentioned in my last post. I think these games might make me smarter, eventually.
    • Why is losing 10 pounds so much more difficult these days? The older I get the more carbs just attach themselves to my skin as unwanted growth.
    • Wouldn’t it be great if they could make a calorie-free red wine? (That doesn’t mean alcohol free).
    • Foot massage businesses were (are are) all the rage in Hong Kong. Why haven’t they migrated here to the states? We’d pay $20 for a 45 minute foot massage. Heaven!
    • Like George Bush, Sr., I wish all restaurants would ban serving broccoli and cauliflower. Yuk!
    • Yea! College football is coming back soon!
    • Summer TV stinks.

    Time to walk the dogs.

    Have a great week everyone!
