  1. On the Road Again

    May 31, 2008 by Leanne

It’s been a long time since my last post. I blame my lack of attention to this site on my traveling. I just spent four glorious days in Washington DC – over the Memorial Day weekend and am now spending 5 days in the fabulous New York City.
I haven’t taken very many pictures here in NY yet. The event I’m here for is today so maybe I’ll have something to post later in the week.
I did make it to Ground Zero for the first time. I felt awkward taking a picture of it, despite the many, many people around me doing the same thing.

Ground Zero – as it looks today.

The night before I had dinner with one of my co-workers from California, Marilyn. We were directed by the hotel concierge to a place called Sushi Samba – which was described as sushi with a Cuban twist. Sounded bizarre enough for us. It actually was a basic sushi restaurant, but the atmosphere and music were samba style.

Marilyn and I enjoying a fine glass of wine before sushi.

Sushi Samba on Park Ave in midtown. If you go, get the calamari -best ever!

Just days before this trip I was in Washington DC for the Memorial Day weekend. I visited an old friend and had so much fun.

On Sunday there was a huge motorcycle rally called Rolling Thunder. Hundreds and hundreds of cycles roared by for what seemed like forever.

    The beautiful Washington Monument.

    The White House.

The new WWII memorial with the Lincoln Memorial in the background.

    The Korean War memorial.

Close up of Korean memorial statue.

The weather here in NYC is supposed to get nasty this afternoon -of course, right during our event. I’ll post more pics from here soon. Can’t wait to get home.

  2. Cover Dog

My friends, Trish and Mark came over to the house this weekend and lucky for me, Mark brought his camera. He took some incredible pictures of me and the dogs. He should do this for a living – wait till you see the pictures below. Of course, it helps that Mikita is so photogenic and a “ham” for the camera.

Poor Jefferson pretty much got left out of most of the photo shoot, but fear not – he’s still loved.

  3. Puppy Playtime

I’m trying hard to get the hang of home-video production. How ironic given my background!! Anyways, here’s another masterpiece featuring the babies:

    And another one:

  4. May Day

    by Leanne

When I was a child, May Day was a big day at our school. Every year on May 1, at Killarney Elementary we held a May Day celebration with the annual Maypole dance. When I was in 4th grade, our class got to actually perform the dance ritual at the flag pole. We each held a roll of Crete paper and somehow managed to dance around the flagpole, intermingling with each other supposedly creating a beautiful and colorful piece of art. All I remember at the end of the “dance” was a mangled mass of paper blowing in the wind.

May Day today – in 2008, has a new meaning for me. It’s Mikita’s 6-month birthday. (I know – STRETCH!) She’s a handful! She’s into everything, grabbing anything and everything she can possibly reach off the counters and tables and running through the house with them.
    Here is my Sunday paper.

My remote control… my tomato for my dinner…

Mikita and Jefferson as seen on our morning walks…

Stopping and smelling everything along the way.

This is me – taken at a recent event at Disney last month.
Happy May Day – and may your Maypole dances be artful and colorful. Did you know Maypole dances were created by the English people back in the Middle Ages?
