  1. Mom – I'm' listening as hard as I can…

    April 23, 2008 by Leanne

My 5-month old Mikita listens so intently to every word I say. She’s so darn cute!!

Then, she does the whole head-tilt thing all over again while the original video is playing on my laptop. It’s so funny!

  2. Christening of the Tub

    April 15, 2008 by Leanne

The Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom is the one new item I couldn’t wait to have installed during the remodeling. It’s not just a bathtub anymore, it’s a heated Jacuzzi with water jets and the whole works. I have visions of grandeur.
My old tub was a basic tub, nothing wrong with it. It was functional and was there to serve a purpose. In the five years I’ve been in this house, I never once used it. But I promised myself with a heated, water-jet tub, I will definitely use it at least once or twice a month.
This past Sunday, I decided I was going to live my dream and take my first Jacuzzi bath in my new tub.
I popped open a small bottle of champagne that I brought back from my trip to Spain last year and poured a nice glass to have while relaxing.
I start the other preparations for the bath. First, turning on the water to fill the tub. Ok – I must have a really deep tub because it took forever for it to fill up. It took so long in fact, that the hot water ran out before it was full. So I make due with what is there. I don’t have any bubble bath so I used one of those bath bombs – you’ve probably seen them. They are about the size of a softball but made of soap. I got it about 3 years ago at Basin at Downtown Disney. I don’t know if age got to it because there was no fizzle when I put it in like the packaging said there would be, but it smelled good.
    So, I get in.
The tank is about ½ full. The temperature is okay – I could have used it a tad warmer, but it was alright. So there I am bathing in my new tub with a nice glass of champagne. It’s at this time I realize I should have brought along a book or magazine to read, because it’s pretty boring sitting there with nothing to do. (Mental note to self to have books ready and nearby next time.)
I figure its time to test out the jet sprays. I press the power button, on come the jets. Whoa! Water is spraying everywhere – something’s not right! Dummy! There wasn’t enough water in the tub to completely cover the jets so it was spraying water all over the place. I quickly turn it off. Whew.
Well, all that commotion got the attention of the dogs. First Mikita comes over to see what’s going on. She jumps up on the ledge and tries to figure out a way to get in with me. Fortunately for me, she was unsuccessful. Of course Jefferson sees and hears all this and comes running over to check it out. Now he starts going crazy. He’s moaning and pacing and almost salivating. My black lab swimming pool junkie has just realized that mommy bought an indoor pool!!! Oh my gosh, I really thought the poor old guy was going to have a heart attack. He ran out brought me the ball and kept pacing and moaning. His actions get Mikita all riled up and now she’s barking at the situation. I give up.
What was to be my peaceful enjoyable christening of the Jacuzzi turned into a 3-ring circus.

So here are the Top 10 theings I learned to prepare for next time:

    1. Turn music on to a soothing station
    2. Bring something to read
    3. Buy real bubble bath
    4. Allow time for the tub to fill (15 minutes)
    5. Make sure there’s enough hot water
    6. Bring the bathmat over to the tub
    7. Keep the dogs out of the bathroom
    8. Drink Cabernet from a plastic wine glass. (I was so nervous having fragile glass in the bathroom)
    9. Put the remote phone on the counter within reach
    10. Relax and enjoy!

  3. My New Bathroom

    April 12, 2008 by Leanne

My master bathroom re-do is finally complete. Find UK Solicitors

Basically, everything in the bathroom was changed. New travertine floors, new vanities, faucets, light fixtures, mirrors, paint, floor boards, door knobs, towel racks, shelving and even a new toilet. And the biggest “new” fixture – the jacuzzi triangular tub! I am most excited about that! Isn’t it beautiful?

The contractor was Pete Pucci, who I would highly recommend if you are looking for someone in the Orlando area. He is detail focused and really helps you think through the decisions that have to be made. And his prices are reasonable – he won’t jerk you around. Contact me for his phone number.

Now, after I pay this off, I’m looking forward to doing my spare bathroom and my kitchen. I’ll keep dreaming.

  4. New York Adventures

    April 5, 2008 by Leanne

I obviously didn’t check with the weather gods before planning this trip to New York. It was a mixed bag of goods – although it was cold (40-degree high) it was sunny and gorgeous during the two full days I was there. But on my two travel days, not so pretty. It rained both days. I’m used to rain – it rains in Florida all the time so I wasn’t afraid of the NY rain. But what happens in NY on rainy days, is the airports freak out and everything shuts down. My flight going up was delayed nearly 4 hours and then coming home yesterday, my flight (out of LaGuardia) was delayed 90 minutes – because it was raining. There were many flights out of NY that were canceled so with only a 90 minute delay I was fortunate. Anyways, I’m home safe and sound.

Taken at the blogging conference I attended Thursday and Friday.

    Beautiful and energetic Times Square.

    The Empire State Building.

    Macy’s at Herrald Square

My hotel right across from Madison Square Garden.

Not on the main streets, but along the side streets, bags and bags of trash lined the way.

Loved this – one of the NYPD sub offices.

  5. New York in April

    April 3, 2008 by Leanne

Living in Florida I forget the rest of the world has a season called Winter. I’m in New York this week and man – it’s COLD in April. This morning it was 33-degrees when I woke up. My thin blood can’t take this.
But, despite the frisky temperature, New York is wonderful. My hotel room is right across the street from Madison Square Garden. One of the many things I love about NY is the walking. I walked to my event yesterday morning, in the 30-degree temperatures, and loved it. I walked from 30th Street down to 4th Street to NYU. On the way back I cut through the Greenwich Village side streets and meandered thru the streets having a blast. Walking is great in so many ways. Aside from the obvious exercise benefits, it’s also all the smells, sights and sounds you encounter along the way. Its all good.

As many times as I’ve been to the city, I had forgotten how loud the night noises are – with horns honking, sirens blaring, street people yelling… trying to get a good night’s sleep is a little challenging. My room, as pretty as it is, is so open to these noises it sounds as though my windows are all wide open.

One of my reasons for this trip was to attend a press conference announcing the 1st annual World Science Festival. The keynote speaker was Alan Alda. He’s really funny! He has a big passion for arts and sciences and wants to make sure today’s children don’t miss out on great opportunities ahead for them in the science world. The press conference was held at NYU.

Dr. Bunson Honeydew of the Muppets was also a guest speaker at the press conference.

Here is the beautiful view from the conference room at NYU. It was an absolutely gorgeous day in New York.

This caught my eye — a “Panic Alarm” in all the women’s restroom stalls.

    I leave you with that.
