  1. Summer is History

    September 3, 2007 by Leanne

We all know, traditionally Labor Day weekend signals the end of summer. I think the temperature gods weren’t let in on that little secret this year. What a miserable, hot summer this has been – not only in Florida, but everywhere. I just got back from a long weekend in Southern California where they are experiencing one of the worst heat waves on record.
Yes, you are reading this correctly. It was in triple digits in the valley. We saw this thermometer peak at 116-degrees.
After I got the work portion done of my trip to Los Angeles, I was able to spend some quality time with Mike. I’ve been to LA many times before but this time I wanted to do some of the touristy things -like cruising thru Beverly Hills, walking down the Hollywood Walk of Fame and typical sightseeing adventures.

The Hills are Still Alive with the Sound of Music.

My mom will love this picture – she adores Regis!

If you look closely in the background, underneath the white cloud, you’ll see the famous Hollywood sign up on the hill.

Before we hit Hollywood, Mike and I took a detour to wine country, to the Temecula Valley. I’d actually never heard of Temecula before, but it is quite popular in California. We had a blast. We conquered six wineries in 5 hours. Yehnuf‘ said.

A quaint section of the town, although some call it a tourist trap. It was a nice get-away for a day.

Our first winery of the day – Keystone Winery.

A grape vine from one of the six vineyards we visited.

Wine makes Mike a deep thinker.

    Then he gets happy again.

Look how dry the hills are.

Did I mention it was friggin‘ HOT?

Mike and I took a spontaneous cruise around the Long Beach harbor. $10/each and what a fun time. It was a great way to end the day.

A view of Lake Eisnore – as we traveled back to LA from Temecula. We took an “Off the beaten path” road – that gave us both white knuckles and sweaty palms – as we drove high up into the mountains on a two-lane road with sometimes no guardrail. I was panic-stricken. But look at the view!
