  1. Hong Kong Miscellaneous

    June 25, 2006 by Leanne

It has been an interesting week for us in Hong Kong. Gary and I both came down with a virus – which knocked us off our feet for a few days. We’re doing better now, still not 100%, but getting there.

Our friend Candy took us to the most popular Vietnamese restaurant in Hong Kong. Little Pearl Restaurant. And yes – the ceiling really is as low as it looks. We had to duck our heads to get to our table.

The famous Jade Market – where you can get anything at any price – mostly jewelry.

You will find booth after booth of hand-made necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and trinkets.

Another typical cloudy day in HK.

One of the many sidewalk eateries you’ll find while cruising the streets.

  2. One week in Hong Kong

    June 18, 2006 by Leanne

It is so much better here this year after having the knowledge and wisdom acquired during last year’s extended visit. I know my way around, the MTR isn’t scary, the language barrier isn’t as intimidating, and the weather is still suffocating, but at least I am expecting it to be so.
I thought being in the hotel the television channel choices would be better, and they are compared to Gold Coast last year, but there are only three English channels of which two are all news and the other is still Star World, the station that plays sitcom hits from the 80s and 90s.
Although, Star World is teasing a Desperate Housewives marathon coming up soon. And to those of you here last year, their tag line is still the song “Let’s get it started”… as it is drilled into my memory.
We have had very little time to explore until this weekend. Last night, pathetic tired us – we had cocktails in the hotel lobby, then agreed we were too tired to do anything else. On my first Saturday night in the city, I was in bed, asleep by 8:30pm. But I needed it. Jet lag hit me hard again.
Let’s start the photo gallery, in no particular order:

Gary and I rode the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad – my first time. The seats all face in one direction. The above shot is looking out as we leave the Fantasyland depot and below is looking out over Tomorrowland.

For extra entertainment along the ride, they added these pop-up aliens just outside Tomorrowland.

The Main Street piano man – wait – that’s not Billy Joel is it?

These next two shots are the views from my hotel room – up on the 40th floor.

    A fun sign in TST.

Someone is bound to blame Dan Quayle for this sign in TST.

Gary and I are off to explore Mong Kok today. Don’t know what we’ll find!

  3. Welcome (back) to Hong Kong!

    June 13, 2006 by Leanne

It is becoming a June tradition – to spend the summer in Hong Kong. Yes – I am back in the land of prawns, lifts, and mtr’s. This time the length of stay is shortened to just under six-weeks, versus the 4-months of 2005. I am also staying in a fabulous hotel in downtown HK Island, versus an apartment in the middle of no-where. It’s all good!

The trees are growing but the park still looks the same.

The good team is here is preparing for my arrival.

Gary is ready for the work to begin.

Gary and I are the San Francisco airport ready to board the plane to HK.

    More to come!!

  4. NYC in the Rain

    June 10, 2006 by Leanne

I just spent 48 hours in the Big Apple – and it rained the entire time I was there. I encountered a real-life scene from a movie – where the huge truck speeds by, tires hitting a puddle, and the wretched street water splashing me and everyone around me, drenching us with disgusting water. Not a good time.
Our group stayed in Soho – my first time staying in that area of NYC. The one big difference you notice right away is the non-existent sirens. When I stayed in mid-town in the past, I heard siren after siren all night long. In Soho, pretty darn quiet. Our hotel butted up against Little Italy which opened up a bevy of wonderful bistro type eateries to take in. After our event, a large group of us went to a little place called Pepitinos – quaint atmosphere, good food.

Wait – is this New York or is it Hong Kong? You make the call.

Miguel, Annette, me, Tony, and Cara.

Does this look like a cheesy promo photo, or what!!!??

Miguel, Annette and me – right before dinner.

Sara King – loving her phone.

A group shot at the restaurant.

Mike is really thinking “Hi Trish, Tom and John” or is he wondering what Debby is thinking?
