  1. Super Bowl Media Day

    January 31, 2006 by Leanne

Media day was today – as it is always on Tuesdays. First team comes out for one hour to talk with the media, then there is a break for lunch. Then a couple hours later the other team comes out for the same exact event. It can sometimes be a zoo – or at least very chaotic. Today though, both sessions seemed to run very smoothly. We didn’t notice as many outrageous/obnoxious media types there this year. No one dressed up like super man, or a gorilla running around, only someone with a puppet.

    Al Michaels press conference.

A Seattle Seahawk taking video of me taking a pix of him.

The famous Mickey Mouse tattoo on Hinds Ward.

    Michael Irvin press conference.

    Me and some Seattle Seahawks.

Gary in a discussion with Peter Warrick.

Troy and Jerome Bettis – 2 NFL legends.

My former colleague Bill – who looks great!

Gary and Liz captured in a moment.

And finally -look into the seats – where Rick had to get away from it all.

  2. Detroit Pictures!

    January 30, 2006 by Leanne

I’ve been here two full days now and have seen “some” of the Motor City, mostly the airport and downtown area. It is definitely an interesting town, although the winter weather doesn’t do much to add to its beauty. Everything is grey and brown. When the sun does peek through the clouds, its such a relief!
Now that I have a flashcard reader, I can finally share some pictures of the city with you.

This picture says it all about the architecture in Detroit. It’s all about old meets new.

This is the corner building where our office is located (in a trailer)

A very cool Cadillac billboard that is getting lots of attention. Look closely at the windows – those are “dummies” hanging out the side – with automated flashing light bulbs. Very Cool!

Me at Motown Winter Blast – in front of our projections building. (on the left)

Darrell, Garth, Gary and Kent – aka Motley Crew.

    The Think Tank Team.

I gotta quit taking pictures at night while in a moving car.

And finally, these dogs made a guest appearance at our rehearsal.

Gary (below) thinks we’re in Alaska and is doing the old Eskimo nose greeting.

  3. Super Bowl Bound…

    January 29, 2006 by Leanne

I’m in Detroit – ready for a weeks’ worth of activities for the 40th Super Bowl – Steelers vs. Seahawks.
It’s much warmer here today than I ever expected – 50-degrees. I packed my bags for 15- degrees – but I AM NOT complaining. I actually walked to lunch today without a jacket on, go figure!
Dinner tonight was very good. Went to an Italian restaurant near our hotel. The food was very good. We had to wait for 25 minutes for our table, but that was no big deal.
    Let’s see what tomorrow brings!

I’ll post pictures as soon as I can upload them.

  4. My new friends

They are actually long time friends – known them since 3rd grade, but they have some new outfits to show off!

  5. Riding Expedition Everest!

    January 25, 2006 by Leanne

I did it! Me – who has a fear of thrill rides and coasters in general – rode the new Expedition Everest ride yesterday. Here’s the photos to prove it!

Wow – what a thrill! I DID IT!!!

  6. It never ends…

    January 17, 2006 by Leanne

Today I go to mom’s house early in the morning (8am) to check in on her and make sure all is okay since she’s been home from the hospital. We visit, chat, etc.. and she asks if I would mind filling up her gas tank for her, a task she has always felt she should never have to do. (When dad was alive, he spoiled her and always took her car in for fill-ups. She has never, ever used self-service pumps in her life, though I have tried to teach her.)
So, I go in the garage to get her car, when she also asks me to look underneath the car to see if she might be “dragging” anything, since she’s been hearing this odd sound when she backs up or drives over a bump. I get on my hands and knees in the dirty garage – and quickly see what her problem is… she’s got a flat tire in the back. Lord only knows how long she’s been driving around with the tire like that.
We go inside and contemplate our next steps. Sadly, I realize I let my AAA membership expire when I was in Hong Kong – and she has never had one. After a few phone calls I find a tow-truck company that can be there within 30 minutes to come put the spare tire on. Yippee – so I think.
The very friendly and courteous (and I mean that) driver arrives on time, gets the spare tire out and tells me it is also flat. Ugh. He then takes the spare tire down to the local gas station where he pumps it up. He brings it back and I’m thinking we’re doing okay. Until – he then tells me he can’t find the FORD lug nut wrench needed to get the lug nuts off the flat tire. He spent 15 minutes looking in his truck and on the phone before he came back and said he couldn’t fix it. So he pumped just enough air into the flat tire which would get me to the tire store within the next two hours.
Over $400 later, mom has four new tires and wiper blades on her 1993 car. It never ends…

    The flat tire. (enough said)
Mom’s car on the lift, or rack as some people know it.

Before any of the tire crisis started – I pulled off the side of the road and took this beautiful sunrise shot – off Magnolia Homes Road in Lockhart.

I shot I took while driving down the East West Expressway – heading to Bootcamp at 6:30am. Dangerous – yes, but there wern’t that many cars on the road and I was careful.

As Scarlett O’Hara said “tomorrow is another day” (or maybe it was “I’ll think about that tomorrow”)

  7. Full Mom Weekend

    January 15, 2006 by Leanne

A full moon and Friday the 13th, all at once.
And so the moon and stars were aligned.

What a past few days it has been. Mom got sick again and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The same nasty gastro symptoms keep rearing their ugly heads – almost like clockwork and nothing seems to be done about it. Too much information? Welcome to my life.

    We’ll start with the good:

    Now the BAD:

Mom in the emergency room. I figure you really can’t see anything with this photo so she wouldn’t be too upset with it being on the web.

    And the fun:

I picked up this game CD on sale at an office store and have had SO MUCH FUN with it! It has all the classic arcade games I remember playing for hours at a time. Everyone should get one of these and relive the fun years.

  8. Wildcard Weekend

    January 8, 2006 by Leanne

Ah – the NFL playoffs. Who will make it into this year’s Super Bowl? Too bad it can’t be Peyton vs Brady. Watched the Bucs go down – with a controversial play. Thought it was a touchdown – he did have possession when he was in the endzone. Oh well.. poor Bucs.

Other events of the week – we took down all the Christmas decorations. :( The house now seems so plain. Only 10.5 more months till we put it all back up again. Next year, I am going to have outdoor decorations, too. I’ve been telling myself that every year, but never get around to putting up the outdoor lights.

I’ve got to tell you about Orlando Bootcamp. You can find out more by going to Orlandobootcamp.com. It’s my new work-out training three days a week. I’ll bring my camera to class this week and share pictures with you soon. It’s awesome.

    In the meantime…..

Ashley getting ready for her daily nap.

Oh yeah – I made a mess at dinner and tried to soak up the spilled gravy with my napkin. Only I can do something so messy at a 5-star dinner.

I pulled into this Indian grocery store on a whim – bought a bunch of curry “stuff” and made a really delicious chicken curry dinner.

    See you next week!

  9. Welcome 2006!

    January 1, 2006 by Leanne

Another New Year’s Eve has come and gone. While I was awake at midnight, it was only because I was woken up from a deep sleep on the couch. Ugh! I’m getting so old! It’s not to say we didn’t do anything on New Year’s Eve. My good friend Miguel opened his home up to friends and family to come celebrate the evening. It was a good time, but I knew I’d never make it out and about till midnight. (I might add, I was up at 5:30am that morning – so there’s somewhat of an excuse.)
On to 2006! What do I resolve to do this year? It’s the Chinese year of the DOG! It’s Ashley and Jefferson’s year! I think they both had a pretty good 2005.
I’m still formulating my resolutions. I can tell you the usual “weight control” is going to top the list, as it does every year. I have some ideas for the others, but not quite ready to share with the world yet.
    Here’s some photos from NYE!

Looking in at the Piedra NYE fiesta.

Dw and me enjoying each other and the night.

John Gould and Dw kicking back on the front porch.

Vic and her new baby – Baby’s first NYE!

Miguel and Mojito – (sorry Miguel, it’s the only photo I have of you from the evening!)

Let the year of the dog begin!!

Jefferson asks “why” he has to wait outside while Ashley finishes her dinner!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
