  1. The Peak

    July 10, 2005 by Leanne

I’ve been in Hong Kong more than 5 weeks now… And can you believe it took me this long to make to one of the most popular tourist destinations? My new friend Dw and I ventured out on Sunday to go see Victoria Peak. The views are absolutely incredible. You ride up a 2-car tram at a 27-degree angle, up the mountain to a height of 1250 meters. On our visit, it was a little hazy, but sunny and beautiful. When you get to the top, there’s a whole shopping district with restaurants, shops and even a mall. The day was so much fun and I’m definitely going back!

This is a view from afar of the famous Clock Tower in Kowloon.

These are the lucky people who live at the top of the peak. Their views are phenomenal!

  2. BREAKING NEWS – New Arrivals to HK!

    July 6, 2005 by Leanne

We interrupt this stream of Beijing photos to bring you this breaking news…..
The latest arrivals from Disney World arrived safely to the Gold Coast Apartments in Hong Kong last night. Gary Buchanan, David Roark and Nydia Lopez were all smiles even after a very long flight.

Gary sits with the Disneyland Paris contingency.

A toast to the new arrivals – who are very, very needed!

And finally, this was the posted weekly tour offered by the Gold Coast Apartments this week. If you can’t read it, it says ” Squid Fishing Tour” – and in small print – “IF a Black Rain or Typhoon Signal #3 is heard within two hours before the tour, the tour will be rescheduled and no refund offered.” The group got here just in time!

We came across so many adorable children during our travels. See for yourself.

    Next time: The Forbidden City

  4. Beijing Baby – Part 2: The Great Wall

    July 4, 2005 by Leanne

On our first full day, after the Ming Dynasty Tombs, we went to the Great Wall of China. It is amazing. Breathtaking, eerie, historical.. There are so many words to describe the emotions felt when we were there.

Rick, Derek, Leslie, Debbie, TC, Jenny, Me, Mike and Darla at the top.

Vendors had their booths along the way. And they used the donkeys (Below) to get up the mountain with their goods for sale. Drinks sold at whatever you could bargain for. Most of the time a bottle of water averaged $ 5 RMB which was about $.90 USD.

  5. Beijing Baby!! – Part 1

    July 3, 2005 by Leanne

Even though our work plates have never been more full, we knew we needed to take advantage of this July 4 weekend and head out of town. It really may be our only time to do so while we are here. So nine of us hit the road to Beijing – embarking on a fantastic journey. What a city! So much to share – so little time to get it all in.
I took 140 pictures on the 3-day trip. I’ll be putting them up on the blog in various stages.
Just to get started – here’s the beginning of the experience.

Airport cocktails – waiting on the flight to take us north.

The first thing we see at the Beijing airport – Starbucks!

The view from my hotel window.

Transportation was eye-opening. Bikes, people and rickshaws share the road with the taxis buses, cars, and trucks.

First tour stop – the Ming Dynasty Tombs.
The lady in front is our fabulous tour guide -Jacki.

    Touching the turtle meant prosperity.

It’s 2:45AM in Hong Kong right now – I’m tired and going to bed but will be sure to upload many many more photos this week. Got to get ready for a very busy work week.
Hope everyone back home is doing good!
